Danchen Gao, Ph.D.

Danchen Gao is a pharmaceutical executive with more than 30 years of experience in drug product development, R&D portfolio management, intellectual property strategy, and innovation leadership. 

Prior to joining OPL Pharmaceuticals in 2025, Dr. Gao held leadership roles at Abbott Laboratories, AbbVie, Pharmacia/Pfizer, Morton Grove Pharmaceuticals, and Anchen Pharmaceuticals. Most recently, she served as Director of Intellectual and Innovation Strategy at Abbott and AbbVie for 15 years, where she helped align scientific innovation with corporate strategy and portfolio growth.

Dr. Gao is the recipient of the Controlled Release Society Women in Science Award, recognizing her significant contributions to pharmaceutical science and innovation. She earned a B.S. in Chemistry and Environmental Engineering from Beijing University of Technology and a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy.
